Toolong Records
3 ch. De Rigoumel – 83200 Toulon – France
After a self-produced album ‘The Desert of Wasted Time’ (2016) that obtained a good critical reception in French indie webzines, Erwan Pépiot comes back with 9 new songs, gathered in ‘Hidden Memories’, a new album released in June 2017 on Toolong Records and mastered by François Fanelli at Sonics Mastering.
Erwan Pépiot is a DIY multi-instrumentalist based in Paris. He wrote, recorded and mixed the entire project on his own in his home-studio. Only one exception to the rule: Aurélie Tremblay’s voice, present on every track.
The vocals are the first thing that strikes you when you listen to Somehow’s romantic and melancholic universe. Erwan’s phrase and timber are in line with Morrissey and Ian Curtis, but the melodies show a real singularity and sincerity. Somehow’s surrealist lyrics deal with human relationships, the passing of time, and the ideas of change and revolution.
The bass lines remind us of The Cure or Joy Division and yet the imaginative arrangements and the wide diversity of sounds (acoustic guitars, keyboards, melodica, violin, cello…) are more in line with bands like Belle and Sebastian or Fanfarlo. The result is a unique and touching indie-pop.
On stage, Erwan delivers an intimate voice and guitar interpretation of his songs.
This brand new record has already received unanimous critical acclaim in French and international media:
“While the deep timbre of Pépiot’s voice is the first thing you notice, once you hear the bass line, you’ll be entranced. (…) The result is splendid” [The Revue]
“Between his emotive vocals and the bouncy bass line is a mounting melancholy that sweeps over lampposts and railroad cars” [Ohestee]
“‘Hidden Memories’ is most certainly an LP to add to the collection” [Emerging Indie Bands]
“Une atmosphère parfois mélancolique, qui nous happe, et dont on ressort rasséréné“ [Pop Is On Fire]
“Un hymne à l’innocence et à la jouissance de l’instant, entre plaisir et liberté“ [Indie Music]
The first single’s video clip has been featured on BIRP! and Les Inrocks.

@TGMasqueradeSwe soon on www.onlyrockradio.com #rock #music

A new act has entered the rock scene! The Grand Masquerade is a 4-piece band based in Stockholm with a unique image; combining 80’s rock culture with the Venetian Opera and Masquerade scene from the late 19th century.

The band started out as a studio project by John Sebastian, however more extensive plans evolved. He developed the band by contacting his childhood friend Freddy Claye, whom he had previously performed with, as well as his friend and classmate IvveDanelli (vocalist in Pretty Wild). All the trio needed was the right drummer, and Ivve had just started studying music production with Martin Rhyder (ex. Drummer in Chains), whom he had met some years earlier.

Having acquired a master drummer like Martin, they now had a strong and solid rhythmic foundation to build on. Ivve’s experience in the music industry, his outstanding songwriting abilities, and his powerfully phenomenal vocal range immediately made him a valuable asset to the band. As a natural front man with an energetic and expressive stage presence, Freddy smoothly utilizes his charismatic personality and style, adding harmony with his amazingly unique voice and simultaneously completing the rhythm section. Not only does John have extraordinary skills with shredding a guitar and composing warm melodic hooks, but his knowledge and passion for production and mixing is proven by the perfection on every track.

Once the band was formed, John had an idea for the name of the group, a name which Ivve had planned to use with another project that was never launched, The Grand Masquerade. Everyone agreed that it was a good solid name for them to use. The first time the quartet stepped into the rehearsal studio there was an instant chemistry as everything fell magically into place.

The band was almost complete; the only thing left to do was invent an image, something new and exciting! John had the idea to introduce the Venetian Opera and Masquerade theme into the band to further enhance their name and image. With this complete, the Grand Masquerade was ready to take on the world!

The music genre is best associated with AOR, Melodic and Glam Rock. The musical inspiration is influenced by bands like KISS, Queen, and Def Leppard among others, and the music itself is exceptionally arranged with a modern twist. This is not your average rock band, nor is it just another rock show. The mystique from the masquerade is integrated with the energy from rock music to create an extraordinary audience experience and event.

The Grand Masquerade is:

Freddy Claye – Lead Vocals and Bass
IvveDanelli – Lead Vocals and Guitar
John Sebastian – Guitar and Backing Vocals
Martin Rhyder – Drums and Backing Vocals

Pretty City Bio –

The three piece Melbourne lads combine Smashing Pumpkins-esque fuzzed out guitars with washy, reverb drenched vocals to produce a dreamy yet powerful rock sound. They say they are influenced by Trent’s band from the iconic 90s film Reality Bites, and aspire to be like Mystic Spiral from Daria.

2016 has been massive so far. The band’s inaugural voyage to this year’s SXSW (2016) saw them capitalise on their undeniable buzz. As well as scores of press reviews and interviews, their festival culminated in their official showcase reaching venue capacity to rave reviews from blogs Glamglare, Noisy, the AU Review, as well as SXSW punters who came out in droves to see the Melbourne trio throughout the festival.

Upon returning home, the band released their debut album ‘Colorize’ in May, 2016. Pretty City’s debut album has taken the band to new heights not only in the land down under but in the USA. Keeping good company with artists like The Kills & Paul Simon, ‘Colorize’ was the 12th CMJ most added record to US college radio in early June & is one of only two independent records to be included in the top 20. It also debuted at number 103 on the overall CMJ charts and has made top 10s on college radio throughout the country, including a two week stint at number 1 in Massachusetts. ‘Colorize’ was number 70 on the overall CMJ charts in July as continues to chart strongly.

Back home COLORIZE garnered nothing short of rave reviews:

“Colorize covers genres such as ambient, experimental and shoe gaze, but what’s truly astounding is how perfectly the album progresses. There is a clear logic behind the track listing, which ties together the flawless album. This album cries out to be played in full, start to finish, and the payoff for doing so makes for something even greater than the sum of its parts”– The Music

“The acid-drenched debut album from Pretty City will consume you with the Melbournians’ progressive sound.” – AAA Backstage

The lead single from their debut LP, ‘Running Around’ was premiered by CMJ in February 2016, describing the song and band as, ‘Strutting up and along some hazy rainbow made of stadium riffage and ’90s glow stick big pants dance while gazing down at their kicks only long enough to take in that rainbow, this Melbourne-based band sound as brash and ready as a new band can be.’ – Eric Davidson – CMJ, New York.

The remainder of 2016 sees the band hitting the road across Australia in support of Colorize’s vinyl launch, as well as plans to tour the States and Canada in 2017. The band have begun recording their second album, with the first single due for release in mid October.

In 2015, the band released their ‘Triple A side’ single in June 2015, with tracks from the short EP being played on Triple J, and community radio across Australia, as well as commercial radio (Triple M). These tracks were also played on syndicated radio shows that are played in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia with their sound being well received by international audiences.

2014 was also a massive year for the band. They released the fresh new fuzz-rock single Piece of the Puzzle, which channelled a year’s worth of relentless touring and shows. The songs’ carefree, grungy, rock and roll attitude instantly won fans over. Dave Ruby-Howe of Triple J Unearthed said, “This band keeps getting better…There’s a serious punch here that keeps the track surging forwards. ” Dave Ruby-Howe Triple J Unearthed review (Piece of the Puzzle).

The band have an insatiable work ethic, constantly releasing music that pushes the band in new and exciting direction while giving people catchy, memorable melodies you can sing along to.
